Physician Profiles

claire duoDr. Claire Bonsor was born and raised in Vancouver; she graduated from UBC in 1992 and did her residency in Family Medicine at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. She has been living and practising in Powell River since 1995, outside her family practise and maternity work, she is also our Medical Director of Residential Care. She and her husband have 3 wonderful kids. Claire loves being a mom and enjoys various sports along with her passion for music.

steve duoDr. Steve Burns attended Simon Fraser University followed by Medical School at the University of British Columbia. Steve then braved the winters in Regina for his internship training. His practise in Powell River includes special interests in the treatment of patients with HIV, schizophrenia and cancer.
Away from work Steve enjoys riding his BMW GSA 1150 motorbike. He also looks forward to hunting trips with his sons and their dog Chief.

arend duoDr. Arend Delport graduated from the University of the Orange Free State, South Africa 2004 and has been practicing in Powell River since 2008. He started of with full time emergency room duties but since 2010, after the birth of his daughter, has been sharing family medicine office with his wife Dr. Henriette Strydom. Together they provide a full service family medicine practice.


jeffDr. Jeff Lynskey is one of our more established GP’s in Powell River; he has been here for over 25 years. This stability followed a restless youth that resulted in prolonged periods of living in Whistler as a skier and working construction trying to make ends meet. Jeff went through medical school in Calgary and met his wife Cindy who has helped Jeff mature. Jeff and Cindy have raised two children who have gone through university and are both pursuing post graduate courses at University. Jeff’s perfect day would include a 6 am run, morning game of tennis, an afternoon of Cat skiing and an evening with his family and a night on call.

barrie duoDr. Barrie McDonald was born in the sunshine of Australia and came to Canada as a boy. He lost the accent then graduated from McGill Medical School in 1991. He and his wife, Dr Clare Bonser, share a practice and three children. He coaches and plays soccer, has a keen sense of the ironic, and can always be relied on to see the amusing side of life.
